We wandered down to the Brews & Bites Festival at the Mission Plaza to taste a few beers and listen to the bands. The stage for the bands was set up at the base of the chapel steps, and I remember saying to Linda, “If a wedding is going on today, I’m sure the bride and groom will not be too thrilled to have a beer festival and concert going on during their nuptial mass.” Sure enough, just as the local band “Lakes” was taking the stage, the church bells rung out, and the bride and groom emerged from the chapel. Much to my surprise though, the band paused for a moment, the entire beer festival crowd saluted the newlyweds, and someone ran up the steps to give them each a pint. Then the band started to play, and the bride and groom enjoyed the party for a few songs (the priest was nowhere to be seen though). It was a very cool and spontaneous way for the couple to celebrate their new marriage, and I’m glad I was there to grab a few shots with my Leica (notice the official wedding photographer behind the drum kit in the first image — I think I got the better shot!).
